Comprehensive Guide to Stucco Repair and Installation in Calhoun, Georgia
Understanding Stucco, EIFS, and Dryvit
Stucco has long been a popular choice for both residential and commercial properties. It combines aesthetic versatility with excellent durability, making it a prime choice for exterior finishes. Known for its resilience against the elements and its natural fire-resistant properties, stucco remains a preferred option in many areas, including Calhoun, Georgia.
Besides traditional stucco, there are modern alternatives such as EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) and Dryvit. These systems offer improved energy efficiency due to the insulation used in their structures. Dryvit, a specific brand of EIFS, is noted for flexibility and a wide range of design options. As innovation in materials continues, property owners in Calhoun have a plethora of choices suited to their specific needs. This diversity in materials requires tailored approaches for both installation and repair.
Advanced Stucco Repair specializes in both traditional and modern methods of stucco application and repair, ensuring that properties retain their visual appeal and structural integrity. Understanding the nuances between these materials is crucial for effective maintenance and repair, tasks best left to seasoned professionals.
The Process of Installing Stucco and EIFS Systems
Whether opting for traditional stucco or the advanced EIFS systems, the installation process demands precision and expertise. The initial step often involves preparing the wall surface, which is typically cleaned and repaired to secure a base for the stucco. This step is crucial, particularly in Calhoun, where humidity levels can impact the adhesion of building materials.
In traditional stucco installation, a mixture of sand, lime, and water is applied over a lathe to create the desired texture and finish. The process involves layering to ensure thickness, with time allocated for each coat to dry before the next is applied. This meticulous attention to detail helps prevent common issues such as cracking or uneven surfaces.
EIFS installation, on the other hand, starts with a layer of insulation boards fixed to the wall before applying a stucco-like coating. This method not only offers a seamless finish but also adds insulation benefits, making it an energy-efficient choice. Despite its advantages, EIFS requires a professional touch to ensure proper drainage and avoid system failures related to moisture accumulation.
Advanced Stucco Repair is adept at both these processes, offering tailored solutions that align with the architectural style and environmental conditions of Calhoun. Their expertise ensures that each project is executed with precision from start to finish, thereby safeguarding the long-term investment in property aesthetics and function.
Repairing Stucco: Addressing Damage and Enhancing Durability
Even the most well-maintained stucco exteriors will encounter the need for repair over time. Common issues such as water damage, cracking, or impact damage can detract from the beauty and effectiveness of stucco surfaces. Repairing a stucco wall or addressing a stucco hole is necessary to prevent further deterioration and maintain structural integrity.
Advanced Stucco Repair approaches these challenges with a combination of skill and precision, using industry-best practices to ensure repairs are long-lasting and visually seamless. The process begins with a thorough assessment to identify the root cause of the damage. This step is crucial, particularly for properties in Calhoun where unique weather patterns can exacerbate underlying issues.
Once the problem is identified, the repair process involves careful removal of the damaged area, application of a new stucco mixture, and blending the repair with the surrounding area. For EIFS systems, particular attention is placed on ensuring the insulation component remains intact, preserving energy efficiency.
Effective repair requires not just fixing the visible damage but also reinforcing the structure to prevent future issues. Advanced Stucco Repair’s comprehensive approach ensures that their work withstands both time and the elements, providing clients with peace of mind alongside aesthetic improvements.

About Calhoun, Georgia
In December 1827, Georgia had already claimed the Cherokee lands that became Gordon County and other counties. A small town called “Dawsonville” was created and founded in Gordon County, named for the owner of an early general store. Dawsonville was later renamed “Calhoun” to honor U.S. Senator John C. Calhoun, following his death in 1850.
Gordon County’s inferior court called an election for the selection of the county seat, offering voters a choice between a site on the Western & Atlantic Railroad (near Adairsville) or a site more centrally located within the county. Voters chose a site along the railroad, so the inferior court designated Calhoun as county seat in 1851. The legislature incorporated Calhoun in an act approved on January 12, 1852.
On January 5, 1861, Georgia seceded from the Union as a prelude to the American Civil War. Calhounians joined the Confederacy. Most warfare took place elsewhere, but on May 16, 1864, Calhoun was near where the Union General William Tecumseh Sherman and Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston postured before the Battle of Adairsville during Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign. Oakleigh, the home of Dr. Wall, was used by Sherman as his headquarters at that time.
